Sam Collingwood '17 Recruiting Profile

I am a multi-sport athlete who plays lacrosse and basketball.  I grew up playing basketball and played on travel teams, as well as my middle school and high school teams.   I always excelled at basketball, making competitive travel teams and several All-Star teams;, but I started becoming more passionate about the game of lacrosse.  I still play basketball in a winter league, but I try to play Lacrosse year round.  I played for our local youth lacrosse league for several years and was lucky to play on some great teams with coaches who taught me to love the game.  In 9th grade, I started on new travel team, Battlelax, with many of my teammates and I still play for that team.  I was one of 2 Freshman to play on the HS Varsity team and I was a starter for the Varsity team both my Sophomore and Junior year.  I was selected as an All-Conference player all 3 years - 9th grade (Honorable Mention) and 10th & 11th grade (2nd team).  This past season, was a game changer for me.  As a Captain, I grew as a leader and became more vocal on the field.  I also grew physically (2+ inches), which helped me become a stronger, more confident player in both LSM and Defense positions.  I've also worked hard as student, maintaining a 3.58 GPA (with several AP Honors courses) and ranked 217 out of 678 in my class.

Going into my Senior year, my first goal is to continue to grow as a player and leader so I can finish my high school career by going to States with my team! Second, is to pursue my dream of playing lacrosse at the college level. I'd like to find a school that has a combination of high academics and competitive lacrosse.  I think with my work ethic and commitment I could impact the right team on and off the field.  

This summer is the first opportunity I've had to play in big recruiting events and showcase tournaments.  I was selected to play on the All-Star Team at the Carolina Summer Shootout in Rock Hill, SC on July 9th and the next weekend I was selected for the All Star team at the NXT Philly Summer Showcase on July 15.
