I am a senior attending Hilliard Darby High School in Hilliard, Ohio. I am 6' 2" and weigh 185 lbs, and a devoted student athlete. I take a Fitness For Life class in school where we lift four days a week and have athletic enhancement every Wednesday. This is a very rigorous class as we have to max test three lifts at the end of each quarter. Each quarter we have to improve our max weight and then work off of weight charts that judge the amount of weight we need to lift. Along with bench press, squat, and hang clean, we also have to test our 40 yard dash and vertical jump at the end of each quarter. Again, we have to improve on each test in order to recieve credit for the class. Another aspect that shows my devotion to athletics is that I am a varsity captain as a juinor. I feel this is attributed to the fact that I attend every open gym for lacrosse, organize, and lead summer workouts for my team.
Along with being a devoted athlete, I am a very self motivated student athlete. I have always taken honors classes since seventh grade. Also, I took a summer school class in order to get ahead because I felt that I was not being challenged enough in the class schedule that I would have been in. This year, I also take an AP class. Next year (senior year) I'm scheduled to take two AP classes; AP Statistics and AP English. I am a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, and Diverstiy club at my school. I really like to learn about other cultures. I have also been nominated for an United States Achievement Academy Scholarship.
I am looking for a very reputable school where I can earn a degree that will open doors for me after college. I am not necesarily looking for a big college because I value classes that have a low teacher to student ratio. I want to attend a school that has high academic standards and supports it's athletic programs.
I have been playing lacrosse for 9 years, and have experience at faceoff, midfield, and attack positions. I have always wanted to play college lacrosse because I feel college athletics is a unique brotherhood and offers a great venue to grow as an individual. I love the game of lacrosse and I just want an opportunity to play at the college level. Coaches have always complemented me on my stick skills, field vision, quickness, team play, and leadership. Additionally I feel that I have a fantastic lacrosse IQ, and understanding of the game.
During any type of training or practice, I always say to myself "someone has to be the best". I repeat this all the time just to remind myself that if I dont work the hardest, someone else will, then they are better than me. Also, I live by the quote; "Don't do all of the work just to fall short of the goal."
Thank you,
Toren J. Moore
