When I was in the first grade, I was diagnosed with a learning disability in fluency for both math and reading/writing. School has been a challenge, however, I am motivated to go to college, despite my academic struggles. I started playing Lacrosse in the seventh grade and it quickly became my favorite sport, and I can think of nothing better than to play Lacrosse at the college level. A learning disability simply means that I learn differently and need to take steps to make sure that I understand what I am being taught. I have always been able to manage my school work and athletics (I also play soccer in the fall, and swim and dive in the winter).
I take that same ethic to the field. I follow my coaches directives and come to every practice and game ready to work and play my hardest, all the time. I study all the plays the coaches give us, and last year I was made a captain of our team, which was a great honor and responsibility. I told the coaches I wanted to play college Lacrosse and I knew that winning the NM State championship would get me closer to that goal. We were undefeated in our season, and we did win the championship, for the first time ever. I ended last season with 41 goals in eleven games. It was such an amazing feeling!
I am motivated to go to the next level. I am a different kind of person. I have my own way to finish my school work and I do the same to get the job done for my lacrosse team. I run the play as directed by the coaches, I find the open man, or I take the shot. I play to win, but more importantly, I am part of a team. We win together.
