I wish I had known about Lacrosse sooner! I came to this game as a sophomore in High School when one of my friends asked if I would be interested in playing Fall League for my school. The program had only been going for one year and the team needed players. Having decided not to play baseball again, I borrowed some equipment and showed up for the first practice knowing basically nothing about the sport.
A few games into the fall season, I knew this was my sport and my coaches began encouraging me to work hard because I had a natural aptitude for it. In those first months, I worked very hard to learn what everyone else already knew. I wanted this badly enough to work for it –I made up my mind that it was going to be worth it. When the regular season started, I played two games with JV and then got moved up to starting Varsity where I remain today as a defensive player.
I could not have done this without the support of my family. My parents, two brothers and large extended family all continue to encourage and support my efforts to become the best player I can be. My Dad is also a minister and our church family is just as supportive. Watching my Dad in his ministry has definitely given me an example of how being a leader (moral and spiritual) carries over into being part of a team. Through the summer league and being one of the older guys on the team, I was comfortable taking on that leadership role in modeling hard work, team cohesion, and encouragement. And I can see how my willingness to be a leader would be of benefit off the Lacrosse field too.
If someone were to describe me, they would probably say things like loyal, compassionate, deals well with people, likes mission work, good with kids, straight up, and funny. My faith in God is very important to me and I’m not afraid of hard work and collaborating with other people to achieve a goal. I like to have fun but know when it is time to be serious. I have dreams for my future and know that it is up to me to see those dreams become a reality.
One of the first steps in my future is preparing for college. As a High School student, I continue to take challenging and AP classes that are designed to help me be successful in college. When I get to college I want to major in business. This course of study will give me the tools I need to be successful in whatever I choose to do for my life’s work.
Thank you and please let me know if I can provide you with any further information. I look forward to hearing from you.
