I have committed to play at Wheaton College in Massachusetts. I am grateful to all the coaches who looked at my profile and who offered me an opportunity to play at the collegiate level.
The highlight reel from summer 2012 tournament play shows my offensive side.(Youtube Video) The other video (NCSA) is more of a defensive oriented video mostly from last school season.
About Me: I began playing lacrosse in Boise Idaho at the age of 12. As a starting defender, our team won the U13 championship. I fell in love with the game. At the age of 13, I had the opportunity to represent Idaho for the All-Idaho team at the Dick's Sporting Goods Denver Shootout tournament before moving to Boca Raton, FL. At 14 I began high school and am honored to be coached by Andrew Bolger at Pope John Paul II High School. As a freshman on the JV team I was one of the team captains.I was promoted to Varsity as a sophomore and under Coach Andrew Bolger and his staff, my field awareness, knowledge of the game and overall stick skills continue to improve. My strength is in clearing the ball. I currently play midfield, specialize in defensive midi and am the man down guy.
I am a student athlete who is a hard worker, a team player who wants to be coached and who is passionate about the game and respects authority and teammates. For example, in the pockets and sockets tourney we needed a goalie in game 3. I said yes (I have never held a goalie stick) stepped up, had a save and cleared the ball well but was happy to get back to defensive midi when our goalie showed up at halftime! As a result of saying "yes, I will try" when we need help in other positions, I have first hand experience what it is like to play different positions and a real respect and appreciation for the value of each position on the team. As of yesterday I have now had the opportunity to play every position in a game.
In 2012 I became a certified ref through us lacrosse and ref on Saturday mornings when I can. To demonstrate my ability to lead and make a difference in the community, I have formed a non-profit called LAX4ALLYouth designed to bring and teach lacrosse to under-privileged kids in my community. We lead a few clinics over the summer and begin our after school program on 9/9.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Jack McMahon
