Personal Statement

I am a self motivated individual who aspires to get a college degree in the field of Sports Management.
As I pursue my dream of playing college ice hockey I believe that my studies are a priority to succeed not only in college and sports but as I enter the work force.
I have been afforded a great opportunity in attending a college preparatory boarding school which has prepared me for entry into college. I have the advantage of having up to 3 years of a structured environment to learn how to study and for class preparation. This affords me the opportunity to maximize my study time and be more prepared for classes than students who have come from traditional learning environments. I have strived to achieve the most from my education and from the level of ice hockey I have had the opportunity to play. The level of play at boarding school has far exceeded anything I have been exposed to prior to attending boarding school and the coaching is the best I have experienced.
In late April 2015, I was invited and attended the USHL 97/98 Combine/Draft in Orland Park, Illinois. This exclusive invitation only event permitted me to showcase my character and skills in front all 16 USHL teams as well as numerous coaches and scouts from the NAHL, the NA3HL and other leagues. A great opportunity.
As a result of my attending the combine, I was invited and attended the Bloomington Thunder main tryout camp and also received invitations to 3 other Main Tryout camps for USHL teams, 5 NAHL teams main tryout camps, 2 Canadien a Junior " A" teams, 4 NA3HL teams, 1 EHL team, 1U-18 team and 2 USPHL teams.
I am a person who believes and supports all rules applied to my education experience as I have never been the subject of any form of discipline whether in public school or boarding school.
I am a leader, not a follower and I work hard in my studies, class, practice and training. My positive attitude is contagious. I believe I am an example for teammates to follow and fully support my coaches.
I would always represent any institution that I am associated with in a positive light and leave people with the impression that particular institutions student body is a direct result of the professionalism of the faculty and staff.
My dedication to my sport has been a driving force in me succeeding academically thus far and will guide me into adulthood.
I also have been certified by USA Hockey as an ice hockey referee which enabled me to earn money prior to leaving for boarding school. I have refereed at the mite, squirt and peewee levels for in-house ice hockey and have worked as a score/time keeper for all levels mite through adult leagues.
