Reagan Smith '12 Recruiting Profile

Like most players, the game of golf was introduced to me by my father. I started playing at the age of 12, pretty late of age in the youth sports world. I entered my 1st tournament after a year and placed third, with a score of 83. I would practice every weekend and eventually became better. I made the decision to drop baseball from my to do list in high school so I could focus on golf. I have been fortunate enough to have opportunities to play golf at several golf courses in the Dallas area over the past few years. As well as, the experience of golf camps and tournament leagues; which have definitely improved my game. I'm looking forward to my senior season in golf which starts in a couple of weeks. I've grown a lot in height this year which has made my drive gain a lot of distance and I practice hard every day on improving my iron play and putting. Im 6ft now compared to 5ft 6 last year. I weigh 155 pound. My biggest asset that I could bring to a college team is my leadership skills and work ethic. I practice every day once school work is finished and was co captain of my golf team last year. I received our golf award for the team last year as a junior. This year I have been named captain for our team. Through hard work and dedication, I plan on achiving my goal of making it to the state tournament this yea. I missed state by six strokes last year in the regional tournament and have been to the regional tournament the last two years. Last year, I placed third in district and made first team all district. My sophomore year our team won district which advanced us to regionals.

Outside of golf, I am a member of my school's National Honor Society, editor of our school newspaper, and will graduate in the top 20% of my class. Two years ago I was selected and attended the National Youth Leardeship Forum in Washington D.C. I also do a lot of volunteering for the town in which I live in. I've helped out with the American Red Cross, worked on several local political campaigns, and helped build a Veteran's memorial in our town.

I want to attend a college that is known for their academics and strong leadership qualities so that I can be my best by the time I graduate. With that said, playing golf in college has been a goal and desire of mine for such a long time. That's the goal that I have pushed myself to achieve just as much as making good grades. Im hoping to get a scholarship to play golf to help offset the cost of college but to play somewhere would be a honor in itself. If I have to start out a smaller college, I am fine with that. My ultimate golf goal is to play at the highest level possible. Hopefully, that is at Division 1 someday. I plan on majoring in sports management or business. My goal then is to attend law school and become a sports agent or lawyer.
