Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Christian Ethier from Haileybury, in Northern Ontario, Canada. I graduated as an Ontario Scholar from TDSS (Temiskaming District Secondary School) with a four year GPA of 3.4 and I am currently doing a victory lap. I plan to attend post secondary school in the fall of 2016 and it is my goal and passion to strive for a great education, while playing collegiate golf at the highest level possible.

What really sets me apart from everyone else, considering athletics, my personal life, and academics, is my sheer determination, commitment, loyalty, supportive nature, and work ethic to accomplish whatever needs to be done to the best of my ability.  Whether it is academics, basketball, rep hockey, or golf, I stay motivated to keep moving forward. My words of wisdom are be a team player, stay positive, and be relentless.

  • Camp/Event
  • NEOAA (North East Ontario Athletic Association) High School Golf Championship, (Grade 11/12)
  • 9/29/15 to 9/29/15
  • 1st/14 and 1st/24 overall. I shot 78 (par 72) (Yardage 6275, Rating 68.8, Slope 120) I picked up my fifth win of the season at the Spruce Needles Golf Club in Timmins Ontario. It was a struggle but I hung in there for the win. It was a cold morning, starting the round at 4 degrees Celsius, making distance control very tough to judge.
  • Camp/Event
  • MJT (Maple Leaf Junior Tour) Ontario Series at Grey Silo Golf Club (U19)
  • 8/29/15 to 8/30/15
  • T3/19. 73-79=152 (Par 71) (Yardage 6532, Rating 71.2, Slope 131) This tournament was played on aerated greens! On the first day I hit Fourteen greens and no birdies, just two bogeys with the aeration. On the Second day I didn't get the bounces either, causing a few three putts and only one birdie in 36 holes. Played better than the scores show!
  • Camp/Event
  • Al Jamieson Junior Tournament
  • 8/17/15 to 8/17/15
  • 1st/1 and 1st/12. I shot 75 (par 72) (Yardage 6771, Rating 69.4, Slope 119) I picked up my fourth win of the season. I won by double digits and had one mess up, a triple bogey on hole twelve.
  • Camp/Event
  • MJT (Maple Leaf Junior Tour) Ontario Series at Osprey Valley Golf Club (Hoot) (U19)
  • 8/15/15 to 8/16/15
  • 1st/18. I shot 75-71=146 (Par 72) (Yardage 6832, Rating 72.8, Slope 133) I picked up my third win of the season. I won by 1 stroke. I dug deep for this win! I was three back of lead heading into day two, playing in the final group. I started two over through three holes and brought it back to even for the round by hole six, eventually catching the leader by hole thirteen and took a one shot lead by hole fourteen, taking the lead with me till the end. (3 under in my last 14 holes) -Tied for the low score of the event (71).
  • Camp/Event
  • CJGA (Canadian Junior Golf Association) Ping Canadian Junior Match Play Championship (15-19)
  • 7/27/15 to 7/30/15
  • 17th/45 in stroke play. I shot 80-75=155 (par 72) (Yardage 6815, Rating 72.4 Slope 131) I had three double bogeys on the card on day one which set me back. Missed the cut by one stroke. My play wasn't solid and I left a few arrant shots in the wrong places. I feel if I had made the cut into the match play part, I would have done very well. That week I was grinding for pars and i think that would have been the key in match play for that week.
  • Camp/Event
  • CJGA (Canadian Junior Golf Association) Ping Canadian Junior Match Play Championship
  • 7/27/15 to 7/30/15
  • 17th/45 in stroke play. I shot 80-75=155 (par 72) (Yardage 6815, Rating 72.4, Slope 131) I had three double bogeys on the card on day one which set me back. Missed the cut by one stroke. My play wasn't solid and left a few arrant shots in the wrong places. I feel like if I would have made it to the match play portion of the tournament, I could have held off the field for a good finish because of my ability to grind out pars. I made some big mistakes but in matchplay, I would have been fine.
  • Camp/Event
  • CJGA Ping Canadian Junior Match Play Championship
  • 7/27/15 to 7/30/15
  • 17th/45 in stroke play. I shot 80-75=155 (par 72) (Yardage 6815, Rating 72.4, Slope 131) My play this week wasn't solid at all, having some big numbers over the course of two days. Besides the big numbers, I hung in there quite well.
  • Camp/Event
  • NGA (Northern Golf Association) Junior Golf Championship Invitational (17-18)
  • 7/13/15 to 7/13/15
  • 1st/7 and 1st/22. I shot 72 (Par 72) with a double bogey. (Yardage 5795, Rating 67.8, Slope 126) I picked up my second win of the season, winning by ten strokes. There were very strong winds as the back nine came around, and with the elevation changes on this golf course, proves that I struck the ball very well. This earned me a spot in the 2016 GAO Investors Group Jr. (U19) Boys Championship but unfortunately I will be aged out.
  • Camp/Event
  • No Frills Junior Invitational (17-18)
  • 7/06/15 to 7/06/15
  • 1st/8. I shot 75 (Par 72) (Yardage 6125, Rating 66.5, Slope 115) I picked up my first win of the season. I struggled but held in there for a decent finish.
  • Camp/Event
  • GAO Investors Group (U19) Boys Qualifier
  • 6/10/15 to 6/10/15
  • 2nd/24. I shot 74 (par 71) (Yardage 6272, Rating 69.4, Slope 122) After a shaky front nine, I shot two under on the back, giving myself a chance for the win.
  • Camp/Event
  • OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) High School Golf Championship (Grade 11/12)
  • 10/15/14 to 10/16/14
  • 38th/119. I shot 79-72 =151 (Par 71) (Yardage 6427, Rating 70.9, Slope 129) Putting on aerated greens once again. You could not get upset after missing a three foot putt because you had no control over bounces. Whoever got the bounces escaped with low scores. The first day was a result of poor play and also the greens. I don't mean to blame it on that but it definitely played a huge role in the outcome.
  • Camp/Event

  • MJT (Maple Leaf Junior Tour) Eat Sleep Golf Series at Osprey Valley Golf Club (Hoot Course) (U19)
  • 8/16/14 to 8/17/14
  • 6th/20. I shot 80-74=154 (Par 72) (Yardage 6832, Rating 72.8, Slope 133) On day two, the conditions were tough. The mixture of rain and gusty winds made 74 a great score and made up some shots on the field. I moved on after the disappointing first round score.
  • Camp/Event
  • MJT (Maple Leaf Junior Tour) Nationwide Series at Caledon Golf Club (U19)
  • 8/02/14 to 8/03/14
  • 2nd/8 and 2nd/28 overall. I shot 77-70=147 (Par 72) (Yardage 6505, Rating 72.0, Slope 135) I had the low score for the tournament (70) and on the second day I was two under for the round, with bogeys on both par 5’s on the back nine! It could have been a great round!

Training

  • Dynamic strength-training, static strength-training, flexibility exercise, aerobic exercise, and circuit training. (I do everything)
  • 3 years
  • I do not have a golf training instructor. I use my knowledge to find what is best for me and what I want to accomplish. I mainly focus on flexibility, strength, and aerobic exercise. You cannot go wrong when combining strength training with flexibility exercises. Flexibility helps me achieve a wide arc, therefore, creating more club head speed, and at 6'5, can do wonders!
  • Strength-Training Records (PB) during my off-season 2014/15 (November-Mid May)
  • 3 years
  • Personal Strength Training Records: Flat Bench Press: 215 pounds (weighing 197) Push-ups in 1 minute: 64. Sit-ups in 1 Minute: 70. Squat: 225 Pounds (weighing 197)
