Personal Statement

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my profile and hopefully consider me as a suitable candidate to join your golf programme.

You can view additional information and a second playing video at: http://coach.prodreamusa.com/login.php

I am in year 13 at Bangor Grammar School, Gransha Road, Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland and enjoy a 3.1 GPA.

Currently I am studying for my A Level exams which include the following subjects:

Drama, Politics and BTEC Sports Diploma.

Graduation Date: June 2019

Intended College Major: Sports Management/Youth Ministry

My current stroke average is 76.

My golf journey seriously began in 2011, when I applied and was accepted as a junior member of Clandeboye Golf Club. Since then I have also been accepted as a junior member of The Royal Belfast Golf Club.

I would like to apply to a university that has the best academic and athletic fit. I feel that my passion for golf, paired with my personal career path, as well as the fact that I am a hard worker makes me an ideal student. I keep improving my game season by season due to working on all aspects of my game with my PGA coach Andrew Ferguson, many hours of practice, and learning control of my mental game. In addition, my school and team spirit are second to none. I feel that these traits have led me to seek a scholarship with a suitable university.

I aspire to grow my golf game, as well as my academic studies, in order to build my reputation as a mentally tough, academically competent and mechanically sound golfer as I excel into my later years of high school and the following years on a university team.

I carry out my cardiovascular and physical activities by playing rugby and basketball and put emphasis on my physical fitness and strength conditioning by working out at my local gym. On the academic front, I really enjoy learning about math and science. I currently am enrolled in a vigorous curriculum at school and thrive on the pressure to do well. I carry this pressure into my golf game and it's the reason why I push myself to new extremes. I put a lot of emphasis on playing in tournaments and enjoy the competition.

During my high school years up to this point, I've represented Bangor Grammar School at both junior and senior levels. I like the team atmosphere that comes with playing on a high school team and I hope to continue this by playing on a university team. Where ever I’m privileged to play golf at, I feel my game has plenty of room to grow. I look forward to achieving and reaching higher levels as I approach the next stages of my golf game.

2. Personal Achievements:

At the age of five I joined The Northern Ireland Squirrel Association which is a stand-alone organisation and is a feeder organisation to the Scout Movement in Northern Ireland. Since joining I have progressed through the different sections within the Scout movement, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts, currently I am with 12th Bangor Explorers. During my scouting years I have received many awards such as All-round Cub of the Year, Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and have received my Chief Scout's Platinum Award. Presently I am working towards my Chief Scout's Diamond Award. My membership in the Scout movement has helped me to develop many personal skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. At the age of six I joined the Mini-section of my local rugby club, Bangor RFC and represented the club for the following six years, captaining the team in my last year. During this time I was awarded the Most Improved Young Player of the Year.

From the age of five to the age of eleven I also attended McMasters Stage School learning dance and drama and participated in all of their stage productions. I had the privilege of being selected to be part of the cast of the annual Christmas Pantomime in Belfast’s Grand Opera House for three consecutive years, performing in front of over 3,000 daily for a nine week run.

3 Attributes that will make me a good college student-athlete golfer: I am goal-oriented, hard-working, organised and serious about academics and golf.

4. I will be a good college teammate because: I interact well with different kinds of people. I am very much a team-player who understands that mutual respect is an important ingredient of any successful team.

5. I am looking for a university and golf programme that: Has a strong academic record matched with a successful and competitive golf program. I am looking for the best combination of a strong academic program where I can continue to play golf on a varsity level while pursing my degree.

6. My college goals are: To pursue a degree that will prepare me for a career within the golf business after graduation and maintain my personal goal of high academic achievement.

7. I am looking for a university golf coach that: Is interested in seeing all of his/ her players become the best golfers they can be, while encouraging a strong balance between academic and athletic success.

8. The strengths of my golf game are: I am very determined and I never give up on a hole or a round. You can count on me to get everything I can out of my golf game that day.

9. The weakness of my golf game is: Inconsistency. I sometimes hit a few bad shots causing my lowest rounds to not be as good as I know they can be.

10. My golf game will continue to improve because: I am a hard worker and nothing motivates me more than the opportunity to improve my golf game. I continue to work with an excellent coach and approach each tournament as an opportunity not only to succeed, but to learn, grow and improve. Also, I approach practicing as seriously as I do tournament play.

I am a youth leader and Sunday School leader within my local church and I currently am engaged in fundraising activities to cover my expenses in association with my school trip to Kampala, Uganda's national and commercial capital, where we will be conducting outreach work with the street children. I also volunteer at my local Foodbank and within a local anti-human trafficking charity.

On the 6th May I was elected by my peers and the teaching staff in school to the position of Deputy Head of House for the academic year 2018/19.
