Hunter Clay '18 Recruiting Profile

When I was very young, I always had a golf club in hand trying to copy my dad who is an avid golfer. Though golf was first, I loved playing baseball because of the excitement and getting to be on a team with my friends. Being a ballplayer was a great experience. It helped to teach me about team building and a respect for hard work. Setting and accomplishing goals as an individual directly contribute to making the team better. Golf was always there in my life though.  I looked forward to playing on family vacations and during the offseason, always fun and rewarding. At the age of thirteen, after playing travel baseball for several years, I decided it was time for a change. I then started playing golf seriously and it became a central part of my life. Golf has taught me that life isn’t always fair, that things in life aren’t always going to be easy, and that patience is a virtue that can carry one through tough times.

Other influences in my life include my parents and my church, both of which have helped me grow to be who I am today. In college, I am hoping to grow personally, academically, and athletically. It would be an awesome opportunity to play golf at the collegiate level and I am working everyday to try to achieve that goal. I believe I will be a great collegiate golfer and that my work ethic, attitude, and imagination separates me from other players that are my age. Athletically, I believe I have a creative imagination which allows me to hit shots that can get me out of tough situations. Academically, I work hard to maintain my grades and I will carry that skill throughout my college carrier. My mom, who is a teacher, has taught me a lesson that I will never forget. Education always comes first.
