My name is Kyle DeCenzo and my goal is to play college golf.
I'm currently a junior at Viera High School in Viera Florida. My varsity sport is golf. After growing up playing Little League, AAU and Travel Baseball from 6 to 14 years old, I changed sports after playing a few rounds my freshman year and not being chosen for the Junior Varsity baseball team, (Viera student enrollment is 2200 and over 100 kids tried out). Through hard work, focus and dedication, I was able to make the varsity golf team to start my sophomore year.
When I first starting playing at age 15, I was shooting well over 100 but with coaching, training and practice I have been able to lower my handicap to a 2 in a year! Currently, I have won many junior tour events including a junior club championship at Savannah's Golf course in Merritt Island, FL. Also I have begun playing events on the Florida Junior Tour as a 16 yr old competing in the 16 to 18 bracket and I have a top 25 finish. I was also an honorable mention for All Space Coast 2014 awards.
Why Golf has been the perfect sport for me is it teaches good manners, proper etiquette and emotional control. My behavior under pressure is the same whether I birdie or bogie a hole. I keep it simple on the golf course by trying to be the best golfer I can be and the best person I can be while competing.
Playing baseball taught me the values of team play and even though golf is an individual sport, I'm a team player always rooting for the best for my team mates and opponents.
I would be a great addition to any college program as I would be the hardest worker, best listener and most coach-able player. After only playing for 2 years and I still got to this level, proves that hard work pays off and I would bring that work ethic to your college program.
Sincerely,
Kyle DeCenzo
