Personal Statement

My name is Kiernan Murphy and I am a junior at Bartram Trail High school here in St. Augustine, Florida. I am 6'2'' tall and weigh 220 pounds. I have a 3.94 weighted GPA and I take multiple AP and honors classes. I am an AP Scholar and I am receiving my first year academic letter this year. I am a 3 year varsity starter and letter winner on the golf team.

This year I won conference individually shooting a 5 under par 66. I also was the county champion shooting a 3 under par 69. My team has reached the Florida State Finals the past 2 seasons. I finished 21st this year individually and the team came in 5th. I am considered the unofficial team captain on our team. I try to keep everybody in a good mood and positive especially during big events. Collegiately, I would like to go to a school with a high academic tradition as well as a solid athletic program. If possible I would like to stay in the south or the east, but I am open to mostly anything. Playing as a freshman would be great however it is not essential. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this!

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • NFJG Eagle Landing
  • 7/11/12 to 7/12/12
  • 75-74 for a 5 over par 149. I hit 30/36 greens but I was having trouble transitioning with the speed and I was not making many putts. I came in third place.
  • Camp/Event
  • HJGT Shingle Creek
  • 7/07/12 to 7/08/12
  • 76-69 for a 1 over par 145. I hit the ball well both of the days, but I was not putting well in the first round. I had one bogie and 4 birdies the second day. I finished 3rd out of 41
  • Camp/Event
  • FSGA FJT event at Bent Pine GC
  • 6/30/12 to 7/01/12
  • I hit my driver well the first day, but had trouble scoring with my irons and ended up with a 79. The second round I had everything going, I hit 11 greens, missing 4 of them on the fringe, and I had 28 putts. I shot an even par 72 to finish in tied for 22nd out of 65
  • Camp/Event
  • HJGT Postseason WJGS event
  • 12/17/11 to 12/18/11
  • I played well the first day and shot an even par 70 and I was tied for the lead. The second day the scores were much higher and I lost my swing as the wind picked up. I struggled badly and shot an 82.
  • Camp/Event
  • Amelia Island Jr. Classic HJGT
  • 11/19/11 to 11/20/11
  • This was my first event back from my two month break after the school season. I started off a little jittery and the score definitely showed that. I shot an 80. The second day I was determined to finish strong and I did so by shooting a solid round of one over 73.
  • Camp/Event
  • SJRAC High School Conference Championship
  • 9/29/11 to 9/29/11
  • I shot a 66 and won by 5 shots. I hit the ball very well and my short game was clicking. It was nice to see the hard work finally pay off.
  • Camp/Event
  • Daytona Beach Junior Challenge HJGT
  • 9/17/11 to 9/17/11
  • I had been playing well coming into this event and I had a lot of confidence in my game. I shot a first round 73 and was tied for the lead. Heavy rain fell in the morning of the second round and tee times were delayed. We eventually teed of late in the morning and I was leading the event until they decided to call it, reverting back to the first round scores. I was the co-champion.
  • Camp/Event
  • St. Johns County HS championship
  • I played a solid round of golf shooting a 3 under 69. This was enough for me to win the individual county title.
