For as long as I can remember, I've always enjoyed sports and helping others (especially children and the elderly). When I began thinking about my plans for the future many years ago, I started looking at professions that would allow me to stay involved in sports while helping people. Exercise Physiology/Physical therapy (with a minor in coaching) met those criteria for me.
Basketball is my favorite sport and much like the occupation I aspire to, it demands commitment, responsibility, and time. I have committed to the responsibility of being a leader on my varsity high school team for the past several years. I celebrate my teammates and aspire to lead by example. As Albert Einstein said, "Setting an example is not the main means of influencing others, it is the only means." My commitment to basketball has been awarded with several honors: 2013 - Mineral Daily News Tribune "All-Area" Team and Keyser Player of the Year; 2014 - WV AA All-State Honorable Mention, Mineral Daily News Tribune Area Player of the Year, Keyser Player of the Year and "All-Area" Team, First Team All-PVC and Keyser High School MVP.
Hard work during my high school academic career has afforded me some great accomplishments. I was inducted into the National Academic Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), and the Science National Honor Society. I have a 3.7 GPA and am currently ranked 29th of 152 students, placing me in the top 19% of my class. I was nominated to and attended WV American Legion Mountaineer Boys State. Recently, I was named WHAG-TV's (Hagerstown) High School Student Athlete of the Month for March.
I am an active member of my church and community. As a member of the youth group at my church, I've been involved in planning and organizing activities for our younger members. We also plan and host the Sunday morning service once a month. As an active member of my community, I have participated in the Mineral County Relay for Life for the past seven years. I helped clean and restore a local Christian youth center and a Christian school that was damaged by flash flooding. One of my favorite volunteer opportunities was spending time at my local primary school playing football and basketball with students. I have also enjoyed volunteering with various national organizations including the American Red Cross as a blood drive volunteer, the Salvation Army as a bell ringer, and the Avon Foundation as a seven-year participant in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Washington, DC.
My goal is to become a physical therapist that will help people of all ages by improving the health of their bodies and the quality of their lives. Becoming a youth basketball coach in my community would further fulfill my dream of staying involved with sports and working with kids.
