Personal Statement

Greetings my name is Malcolm Jamal Foster, and I currently attend John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. I am a senior and graduate in May 2011. To share a little history about myself, I am the most disciplined student who always produce outstanding class work (even during basketball season), very respectful to my teachers and peers, and has a strong desire to achieve my goals and dreams. I let nothing distract me, and surround myself only with positive influences. This discipline has been instilled in me as a young child growing up in a military household with boundaries, lots of love, Christian values, and a wonderful support system. In addition to my studies, I practice my basketball skills daily on my own. In order to develop my skills and for exposure, I played on an AAU basketball traveling team called First Step Select which is geared towards preparation for college basketball. For the last three years I attended four basketball camps such as Middle Tennessee State University, Rick Bolus' High Potential Basketball Camp at Georgetown College (listed as top rising high school prospects 2010, top ballhandler skills, round ball classic top performer 2010 and listed in top 50 top players for KY state), ATI International Basketball Tours (Bahamas), and Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. Participated in the 12th Annual East vs. West Round Ball Classic 2010 Rick Bolus and received MVP. From having an outstanding junior basketball season, I was the only person selected in our entire region to play in the Junior All-Star game at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky on July 17, 2010. Academic excellence is what I continuously strive for. In the past three consecutive years I've been the only basketball player at my school selected for the Academic Allstate First Team Award and Honorable Mention. My current grade point average is 3.71, and my class rank is 61 out of 291 students. My field of study is Physical Therapy and my long term goal is to graduate with honors and work as a physical therapist. My short term goals are to make straight A's my senior year in high school and work on increasing my ACT scores higher than my present score of 18. My long term athletic goal is to develop my skills for National Collegiate Athletic Association then to National Basketball Association. My short term goal is to play at my highest competition level possible in my position, reach my maximum potential and make a significant impact on our team. I also want to mention that I volunteer as well serving homeless families in shelters and helping those who are in need with my mother. We can remember our struggles growing up with four children in household. It is always nice to give back from your heart in society. Never forget where you came from.
