Personal Statement

As a  three year letterman and  two year starting varsity point guard at Crown Point High School, I have demonstrated both the basketball skill and knowledge that led my team to the 2015 Sectional Championship and Elite Eight.  As a good floor leader, I possess the innate ability to see the court extremely well. As a multi-dimensional point guard, my court awareness both recognizes and creates opportunities for my teammates to score. While I possess the ability to score, as a floor general and leader, I pride myself in providing opportunities for my teammates to score by being named assist leader on the team for two years straight and ranked 8th in assists in our area.  While most players focus on offense, I pride myself in leading by example on the defensive end by leading the team in charges taken.   My understanding of the game and very high basketball IQ, has been developed by growing up in a basketball coaching family. My grandfather is a highly decorated high school basketball coach and is in the Indiana Hall of Fame.  My dad has also coached me for the last ten years. Acknowledgment of my work ethic,  playing ability, and leadership qualities is evident as I was named captain as a junior.  My hard work ethic is also demonstrated off the court.  Academically,  I have been taking all honors courses at Crown Point High School and  am on track for an Academic Honors diploma. My grade point average is a 3.4 and am currently taking dual credit and AP classes for my junior year.  As a member of the State Champion Crown Point Broadcast Journalism team, I initiated the school's first sports talk radio program.  My leadership is also demonstrated off the court by being a two year member of CASS, Creating A Safer School group.  As a CASS member, I mentored sixth grade students by helping to develop a a strong self-esteem, to learn techniques in handling peer pressure, and ways to create a bully-free school environment.   I have dedicated the last 10 years of my life to basketball and my academic future. My goal is to continue playing basketball at the next level and to extend my love for the game after college by following in the footsteps of my family by coaching either at the high school or college level. My basketball ability and IQ along with my strong work ethic and leadership qualities will make me an asset for a college team.I don't play basketball for the individual accolades.  The team's success is my success. I hope that these qualities will make me good candidate for any university.
