Gavin Collier '17 Recruiting Profile

I have played competitive basketball since the second grade along with playing travel baseball and football up until my freshman year. During my freshman year, I made the decision to focus only on my academics and my basketball skills. I have developed a very strong basketball awareness on the court and understand where each individual should be to execute the offenses and defenses. My coaches rely on me to help guide the team into plays by expecting me to lead them as needed. Throughout my AAU and school career, each of my coaches have instilled the confidence in me to take any shot I feel I can make. One of my greatest assets is my willingness to learn from the coaches in addition to learning from the juniors and seniors on our team.

When I'm not working on basketball or classes, I enjoy working with a local charity group called Project Angel. I help out with food drives, gift shopping and deliveries. Additionally, I enjoy visiting younger grades within our school system and talking with the kids. My mom works with special needs children at one of our elementary schools which I really like to visit. I am also in an internship program with a local hospital where I am learning about potential careers in the healthcare industry. The program is called the Explorers @ Hendricks Regional Hospital.

My dream is to play basketball at the collegiate level while focusing on what lies beyond basketball. I'm not sure if I want to be a pharmacist, pediatrician or a career yet to be discovered. But I do know, I plan to work hard towards earning a degree and having a professional career.
