Personal Statement

**Blessed to say I have committed to play for Rider University.

Hello,

My name is Paxton Wilson, I'm a Junior at Calvary Christian High School. I am a 6'3 SG/PG and weigh 192 lbs. I have started on Varsity since my freshman year & have led my team in scoring all three years. I hit a milestone of reaching 1000 points mid-season, averaging the most points in the county. One of the biggest games I played was against the top ranked school in the country, Oldsmar Christian. I led all the scorers with 19pts. I also had 2 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 charge and was awarded Player of the Game. I feel I could be a great fit to your program stretching the defense, playing lockdown defense, scoring, and moving the ball. I have also been working extremely hard, 7 days a week in the off season so far to improve my strength, speed, ball handling, and finishing ability with contact which I will be looking to display in travel ball this season. Below is a post season reference letter from my high school coach. I would greatly appreciate your consideration.

Thanks again,

Paxton Wilson #4

Post season reference letter from my coach:

I am writing to you about our best player and a kid that will impact your program, Paxton Wilson.  He is a 6’3 combo guard who can do everything.

First of all, he is a straight up scorer.  He can flat out put the ball in the basket.  Off of the catch he is a killer.  He legitimately has 26’ range.  He has a great jab step to get his man off of him and will then knock down the 3.  He will jab, pump fake, get his defender in the air or leaning and then score on him.  He has a great move where he attacks the defenders lead foot, makes them retreat hard, and then knocks down a 1 dribble pull up jumper.  Plus, he can get to the basket, draw contact, get fouled and finish.  Off of the dribble, he can pull upfrom 26’ and knock it down at a high percentage.  He has a hesitation, freeze step, pull up 3 pointer (similar to Carmelo Anthony’s move), that is incredible.  He has worked hard as well and has become very good at beating guys off of the dribble.  Paxton was leading our county in scoring half way through the season despite being the focal point of our opponents’ defenses.   I’m talking about a county that has a bunch of Division 1 talent.  After Christmas Break Paxton badly sprained his ankle which caused him to miss a few games and then impaired him until the last week of the season which decreased his scoring average for the season as a whole.

Defensively, Paxton was our best defender.  On top of the scoring he did for us on the offensive end, he was always given the responsibility of defending the other team’s best guard.  Paxton understands how to defend.  He was always in position off of the ball, was our best defender in terms of keeping his man in front of him, and led our team in charges taken as well.  Paxton has good lateral movement, but most importantly has a focus and a desire to never get beat.

In addition, Paxton is a great student, a phenomenal teammate, and our team’s hardest worker.  Pax has a GPA of 4.17.  We are a college preparatory school and Pax is taking all honors classes.  Paxton was voted as the team’s captain this year.  He cares about his teammates and has been a greatleader.  Plus, as you know as a coach, when your best player is your hardest worker, it makes your life a lot easier.  Paxton was our best player and our hardest worker and it had a big impact on our team.

He is a D1 player, with D1 size, talent and skills. We’ve played against some of the best competition in the country and against some of the best players in the nation and I’d take Paxton over all of them.  I understand potential, I understand room for improvement and ceilings, but if you want a kid who will help you win games, who is passionate about basketball, who improves every day, who will be your hardest worker, who will excel in the classroom, who will graduate, who will be a pleasure to coach, who will do everything you ask, who will give you everything he’s got every day, and who will be loyal to you and your program, then I would say you need to sign Paxton Wilson.

Sincerely,

Keb Burley
