From a young age I have been a dedicated and determined athlete. Even at 6'7 and 195 lbs, I try to be the most diverse player on the floor (i.e. ball handling, rebounding, scoring, and seeing the floor to make the best play). I am a 3 sport 5A athlete in my school. I am the Varsity kicker, tight-end and punter for the football team, power forward/wing for the basketball team, pitcher in baseball (freshman year) and ran and jumped in track. With my love of sports, I have matched that with being a volunteer at the Special Olympic's track and field events. I was an buddy to a young man in my grade that I had known for four years. To this day we still maintain a friendship even away for the Special Olympic field. During summers I help my father with ranch work, maintaining our lawn, do various chores, and last summer was paid to care for a home/lawn for a neighbor that summers in another area. I have also done scorekeeping for Colorado Mesa University basketball camps. These have helped me to learn to balance my time.
As of the 2012 basketball season, we have been the 3 time Southwest League Champions. I have had the pleasure of working with a talented team and coaches that accomplished in league play a winning string of 29 wins in 3 years. During my Junior year, our team had eight very talented seniors, but through my summer work in the gym and coachability, I was able to earn a starting position. I have been playing basketball since 3rd grade in all positions. I played 2 years (7th and 8th grade) in AAU. Through out the summers, I play in tournaments and attend as many camps as we can financially afford. I played starting JV player as a freshman, Varsity player as a sophmore, and starting Varsity player my Junior year.
I have always had the dream of playing college basketball. I am excited to continue to improve and offer my talents at the next level. With my classmates and the younger groups, I have been a leader and I am looking forward to hopefully being a team captain my senior year. Another example of my leadership, is helping each summer with the basketball camps and being involved in various fund-raising activities for the team(s).
The "where" I attend college isn't the most important factor for me. I am open to looking at all college options. I am looking for the opportunity to get play time. My education goals are to get an under graduate degree in some form of science in order to apply to Dental school. I know that where ever I go, I will have to focus on my studies and improve my study skills. During my junior year, I have found success in attending Western Colorado Community College to get some of my high school credits. I continue to work on my time management, completing of homework, requesting teacher/tutor help, and through this showing my dedication to getting better grades.
Because I am a twin and have a sister one year younger is school, my family will have 3 children attending college in 2 years. This means that financially each of us are having to work hard in maintaining our GPA, research scholarship opportunities, improving our athletic skills, and completing all the financial aid assistance programs available to us. Financial assistance/packages/scholarships offered to me will be a huge consideration for me and my family.
