I have loved basketball ever since I started playing when I was seven years old. Upon realizing that I had the potential to play at a higher level when I was in eighth grade, I have been pushing myself to reach that goal. My primary goals for college are getting an excellent academic education, as well as finding a team that helps me reach my fullest potential as a basketball player.
What I will bring to a team is a well rounded game that will both score and defend. I am an excellent on ball and helpside defender as well as a good inside and midrange scorer. On defense, I am a very strong shot blocker and can also guard many positions, both inside and out. Regardless of whether he's a guard or a big, I always guard the other teams best player. My junior year I got my leagues Defensive Player of the Year Award. I am also a consistent offensive and defensive rebounder. On offense I score consistently from the post, in pick and roll or slashing situations, and can step outside and hit a mid range jumper. I am a strong candidate for any team not just because of my athletic abilities, but also my positive leadership and coach-ability. I am a vocal leader on the court as the anchor of the team's defense, but also off the court I believe that teammates and my coaches can talk to me. I am also very coachable. I'm always striving to get better, so I welcome criticism and use it to my advantage by improving my game. Overall, I would describe myself as someone who hates to lose, and will work hard to get on top.
Although I have always been on the honor roll, this last year of academics has definitely been my first priority. I have 3.5 GPA and took two AP classes last year, US History and Rhetoric. I also got a 1290 on my SAT. I am a very hard worker and am always looking to challenge myself with difficult classes. One of the best feelings in life for me is when I hit a roadblock, and then succeed and come out stronger by pushing through it, whether it be with academics or athletics. I have been in the Honor Choir and am really enjoying it. I continue to work for and look forward to making this next step in my basketball and academic career, wherever it may lead me. I strive to learn and improve my game every day.
As I continue towards the end of my high school career, I look forward to finding a school which I will fit in and be pushed to the very ceiling of my athletic and academic abilities.
