Hello, my name is Marc Matthews, and I want to thank you for taking the time to view my profile. I am currently a senior (Class of 2012) attending Buena High School in Sierra Vista, AZ. I am 6'2" 185 pounds and play the 3 for my varsity basketball team, and I have also played in the post with my back to the basket. I work hard in practice and on my own, and will do whatever my team needs done for us to be successful. My best basketball is ahead of me as I will continue to improve by working hard on both my weaknesses and the skills I do well. It is my DREAM to play college basketball at the highest level possible, where I can hopefully come in and play and contribute to the team's success. I have the skill set to contribute to a college basketball program as I take pride in proving that by competing and playing well against top players locally and across the country.
I concluded my senior season leading my high school team with an average 18.1 ppg and 6.5 rebounds per game and helping lead the team to a 24-6 record this season and a berth in the quarterfinals of Arizona Division I State Basketball Tournament. I was selected All Arizona Division 1 Honorable Mention, All Southern Arizona First Team, Player of the Year in Southern Arizona Division 1 and Southern Arizona Division 1 first team. Last season as a junior, I led my high school team in scoring at 16.9 ppg and was 2nd in rebounding at 7.0, all while playing out of position in the post. I was selected to the Honorable Mention All-State team, 1st Team All-Region team, and 1st Team All-Southern Arizona. Last season I helped lead my team to the 5A South Region championship, a berth in the Arizona 5A Final Four and an overall record of 25-5. For my 3 year varsity career, I scored 1,370 points for a career average of 15.0 ppg, while starting 90 out of 92 varsity games.
Skill wise, I have a pretty good stroke and do a great job of coming off screens and hitting big shots. I feel I am a tireless worker both on offense and defense where I always faced the toughest match-up night in and night out. I have the ability to play in the paint where my quick jumping instincts enabled me to out rebound taller players. I also possess a nice touch around the rim, and in the open court I am at my best with my ability to dribble and finish in traffic. I feel I can be an asset to your basketball program, as I am great teammate and all about TEAM - Together Everyone Achieves More!
Again, thank you for viewing my profile, and I hope to hear from you soon!!!.
