I am very excited to be looking at colleges and the prospect of playing football at the next level, but my academic goals are my first priority. I am seeking a highly selective school with a strong engineering program. My long-term goal is to become a patent attorney. My high school GPA, SAT scores and many extracurricular activities show I can handle both academic rigor while putting in several hundred hours on and off the football field. My class rigor and GPA have consistently increased over my high school career.
I come from a very competitive high school, both academically and athletically. W.T. Woodson High School is ranked as a top 200 national public school. My freshman year was the very first year I played football, so I was the odd man out. Despite this, I worked as hard as I could and was able to become a starter both ways. I am always putting in whatever work is necessary to be an attribute to my team. On the off season, I continue to do strength and agility training all year. I participate in the 7 on 7 for my school against other local schools. I am dedicated to being the best I can at this sport I love.
Many coaches are looking for examples of leadership qualities. Leadership means different things to different people. I lead by example of both on and off the field. My leadership skills have been rewarded by the coaches as I was chosen to be a captain of my JV team. I see leaders as those who use their skills or resources to improve their community. Off the field, I took my unique skills to do just that. I will begin a Congressional Internship in Rep. Chris Stewart's office in June. I expect to learn more about the major problems facing our country as well as volunteer my time to helping solve them. In addition, with years of Spanish Immersion and piano lesson experience, I volunteered to play piano at a monthly Spanish service our church was establishing. After a year of playing, I was encouraged to lead the service and read from the Bible in Spanish. Both playing the piano and reading Spanish in front of people stretched my comfort zone, but I knew it was meeting a need in my community. In college, I will continue to strive to be an example to others and lead where my skills can be of help.
