Everyone loves to win and so do I. But it was my losing season that taught me how and why I play the game.
Last season, in my Junior year, my high school moved to a higher, more competitive division and we experienced a rare losing season. High hopes gave way to grinding frustrations. Out of the losses, I learned how to persevere, to stay positive and support my teammates, to focus on what is under my control and to not worry about the final score. I learned that continuing to listen to the coaches and train hard despite the losses creates self-discipline. And I learned the most important lesson of all - in the end, you play for the love of the game, not its outcome. I came to understand what Bobby Knight meant when he said, “You don’t play against opponents; you play against the game itself."
I feel that I am a mentally tougher for the adversity. I am a positive, focused, self-motivated and self-disciplined player and I know why I am on the field – I love to play the game. I am committed to working hard and confident that I can have a positive impact on your football program.
