My name is Stacey Watts, Jr., and I am a student/athlete at Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington, Virginia. I'm a 5'8", 165lbs Running back/Corner back. My passion for football started at the age of 5 when I played for the PG Falcons. Throughout the years I continued to play football for the Upper Marlboro Gators. We played in the AYFL Championship in Florida 4 times. Those were great experiences because it showed me that I have what it takes to compete at a higher level and gave me a chance to compete with some of the best athletes from other states. Going into high school I was excited to play at the next level. As a freshman I received the MVP of the season for my work ethics on and off the field. That was an amazing honor and it inspired me to work harder and earn a place on the varsity team. As a sophomore I earned a starting position on the varsity special teams squad. I also scored my first varsity touchdown during my sophomore year. The time spent on the field as a sophomore motivated me to train even harder for my junior year season. Here I am a senior in high school. The school's football program had a big shake up last year and as a result, several teammates that began this journey with me in 9th grade are no longer here. I pondered whether to stay or take my talents to another school. After several family discussions, I decided to finish what I started at Bishop O'Connell. I rallied up the players that were left and we rallied behind our new coach. We worked extremely hard over the summer to give this final season for me at the few other seniors our best shot. After all the off season adversity, and as one of the Captains of the team, I'm all in! I am also a member of my high school track team. I run the 100, 200, and the 4X100. Running track helps improve my football skills.
In addition to my goals of having a successful athletic season, I plan to set even higher goals in the classroom my senior year. I am confident that the lessons I learned from the adversity I faced in the off season leading to my senior year in high school, and the lessons I've learned from playing football such as hard work and discipline, I will succeed at the goals I have set for this year and my college years. I am driven by a sense of urgency to excel in academics, athletics, and life.
