I love football. From the minute I stepped on the field as a 5th grader, I knew I had found my passion. Football has taught me the importance of leadership, dedication, commitment, and teamwork. My teammates are my brothers and it takes everyone filling their role to be successful. I strive to be the best player and role model I can be for my parents, team, coaches and school. Last year there were 22 players in the class before me so I did not get an opportunity to get many touches during my freshman and sophomore seasons. However, I was able to make a positive impact on my junior varsity team and scout team and received the most improved player award after my sophomore season. This year I hit the ground running and am so proud of our results. I played both offense and defense, filling the roles of running back, receiver, defensive back, safety, kicker, returner, and holder. My team won the sectional title which was a highlight for me. I was named to the 3A Junior Indiana All-State Team, All Conference Team, and was given the honor of MVP. I am extremely proud of the results of my hard work.
In addition to football, I also play basketball and golf. I look forward to an exciting basketball season as we have started the season undefeated. While football is my passion and the sport I hope to continue in college, I believe that high school athletes can have such a positive impact on their school and should participate in multiple sports. I am fortunate to live in a community that loves high school sports and fills the stands to support young athletes. Representing my school and community is an honor I do not take for granted.
Being a positive role model to young athletes is important to me. I volunteer at various camps and youth programs for both football and basketball. Helping kids learn not only the fundamentals of the sport, but how to be a leaders and team players is extremely rewarding. When my schedule allows, I also work for my dad’s logging business, volunteer at my church by mowing, and recently helped build a Habitat for Humanity home.
More than anything, I do not want next year to be the end of football for me. I want to play at the collegiate level and will continue to prepare both mentally and physically to make this dream a reality. Football requires a year-round commitment in order to increase strength, endurance, knowledge, and mental toughness. I am committed to putting in the time and energy to prepare to make a positive impact for my team. My sister played Division I volleyball at Marshall University for four years so I have seen the level of dedication required to be successful. Her most prized honor was winning the Chad Pennington Leadership Award. I have learned so much from her about being a positive, encouraging leader and intense competitor. To be a successful college athlete you have to truly love the sport. As I stated at the beginning of this statement, I love football!
