Personal Statement

My name is Kristen Mulcahy and I am from Cedarburg, Wisconsin. I attend Divine Savior Holy Angles High School in Milwaukee, and will graduate in May 2016. Sports have played a very important role in my life. As one of six children in my family, I cannot remember a time when I was not participating in or attending sporting events. I played basketball and soccer on both the school and travel club teams beginning in 4th grade. My strength in both of these sports was my defensive play.

The summer before my freshman year in high school (2012) I attended a field hockey camp and became interested in the sport. That fall during team tryouts the coaches asked if anyone would be interested in playing goalkeeper and I volunteered. Little did I know that this decision would allow me to discover my true passion and love for the sport of field hockey. I continued to play basketball at my high school on both the freshman and junior varsity teams but decided to spend the spring season focusing on improving my field hockey skills. I played in the academy programs at Lake Country Field Hockey Club (spring 2013) and then with Milwaukee Field Hockey Club until June 2014. At that time I made the commitment to focus on field hockey and to further develop my goalkeeping skills. I became a member of the MKFHC U16 elite team and participating in the National Festival Tournament with this team.

I believe my leadership skills from the backfield are an asset to my team. I am dedicated to continuing to strengthen and improve my skills. Currently I am a member on one of the MKEFHC U19 elite teams.

I would like to continue my field hockey career at the collegiate level. In college I am interested in studying education. I think I would like to be a high school history teacher. I am also involved in many clubs at my high school and enjoy volunteering.
