Amanda Gunuskey '20 Recruiting Profile

I would like to take a second of your time and introduce myself, I am Amanda Gunuskey, a fun loving, had working, and independent student athlete, at Honesdale High School. HHS has provided me the opportunity to be a multi-sport athlete, playing basketball, softball and my favorite sport of all Field Hockey. I have managed to coordinate a busy school-sports balance that has me on track to be inducted in the National Honor Society, while playing Field Hockey year-round for the Electric Surge FH Club team out of Wilkes-Barre PA, and still playing for my high school sports team in season.

Throughout my life I have devoted much of my time to the sport of Field Hockey. From the 3rd grade until the 6th grade I was a volunteer manager for our Jr High FH program, and participated in several school club team hockey tournaments when I could, just waiting for my chance to get on the field as an actual player. 7th Grade was the actual start for me playing team field hockey, followed by making the Futures FH program and the Electric Surge FH club. Club hockey has afforded me the opportunity to play both indoor and outdoor field hockey against some very competitive teams and be coached by some of the very best, including 3 trips to the NIT’s in Lancaster PA. Some of the other events I have attended are “The Bash at the Beach Tournament” in Virginia Beach, Virginia, an instructional tournament at Old Dominion University, in Norfolk Virginia, two Super Sixty tournaments in Philadelphia, Pa and a trip to the College Showcase in Richmond Virginia, along with attending a FH team camp at Shippensburg University, where I was selected the Gatorade MVP.

These experiences have been very valuable in shaping who I am today on and off the field, showing me the importance of teamwork, leadership, and patience. My off the field activities have been just as rewarding, as I have worked as a counselor at Dyberry Day Camp, a camp the mentally and physically impaired youth in my hometown, during the summer break. I also volunteer as a mentor at several youth FH camps/clinics, and assist at several fundraisers for the local Volunteer Fire Department. All in all, I feel, the sport of Field Hockey is helping mold me into a versatile, well balanced and productive student/athlete, and I look forward to the challenge of learning and playing at the college level.
