My name is Sophie Craig and I am in the graduating class of 2017, at Fayetteville-Manlius High School in Manlius, New York. I am a very motivated and ardent student of academics and athletics. As an athlete, I push myself to the next level and the best that I can be at each and every opportunity; and I apply this competitive motivated nature to everything that I do. My time is well spent after studying, working daily with my trainer Robert, who is helping me to become stronger and faster. When not in season, practicing with my travel coach Stephanie Collins has improved my skills and strategy on the field. I have participated on the USA Futures level of field hockey since 2013. And I feel fortunate to train with the Syracuse University coaches and players , at the level one site. I am a member of the U-19 Southern Tier Storm and spend my weekends playing indoor with and against the best players in the region. Academically, I hold a 3.5 GPA, and I am in Honors level courses.I have been a part of the Fayetteville-Manlius orchestra for many years, playing the viola. And I am passionate about broadcast journalism where I am fortunate to write, produce, and report the FM news daily to the entire school. In 2014, I received the NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Award. I hope to major in English and eventually attend law school.
In 2014 and 2015, I was chosen to be on the National Championships for Futures, and competed for a spot in the Junior Olympics. For three years I participated in Festival with the Syracuse Surge Club Team. I also attended the ESPN Disney Tournament in 2013 and 2014 with the Syracuse Surge Club Team. In 2015, I participated in the National Indoor Tournament Qualifier with the Syracuse Surge Club Team. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to compete at many other field hockey tournaments. Beginning in 2013 as a freshman I was a starter for my school team, and I was the leading scorer. I was given the best offensive award. In 2014, I was a starter on the Varsity Field Hockey Team, as well as the second leading scorer and I received the CNYCL All League Award. 2015, our team won sectionals, and I held the title for leading scorer and points. In the past I spent every day in the dojo becoming a red belt black stripe of Tae Kwon Do and was very involved in competing statewide on the fight team. I also became a Girls Pole Vaulter for nationally renowned track coach Bill Aris' Varsity Track Team, and a starter for the Girls Freshman Volleyball Team, for two seasons. Being a leader, and pushing myself as well as my team, is the most important thing to me as an athlete. My dedication to daily training year round is the reason why I would like to play at the highest level possible, while still receiving the best education.
