Allyson Blazejewski '11 Recruiting Profile

I am a 5'7 senior from Phillipsburg, NJ, and I will graduate from high school in the year 2011. I have been a starter for my varsity field hockey team for three years. As a freshman, I knew absolutely nothing about field hockey. I was a young new soul in the program. I went from knowing nothing about the game of field hockey, to becoming a three year starter and a two year captain for my team. Field hockey has changed my life in many ways, and it has made me realize that working as a team on the field and in the real world are life techniques I will need in the future. I am a leader, and I take it as a serious responsibility. Being a leader is not just being good at a something; it means that you are good with helping others strive to be the best they can be and you are there every step of the way. When a teammate looks up to you, it feels unbelievable on how you are making a difference in their life and how they play the game. Besides field hockey, I am also involved in basketball and softball. I play for my high school team. I am also looking for a travel field hockey team to tryout for. I am an honor-roll student. I believe academics as well as being a well-rounded athlete are important. I believe defense is a huge aspect in field hockey. The defensive players are an "iron curtain" so the other team has no chance of scoring. They back up their offensive players and assist them in every way possible. Personally, I love being known as a defensive player. It shows people that I am aggressive and not scared of anything that comes my way. My mindset is to always stop the ball and work it up the field in any way, shape, or form that I can. Defenders are not usually the all-stars of a team, but they help others become all-stars. They lead the team in wins and do the little things in a game that make a huge difference. As a defender, I scored a winning goal in double-overtime. School wise, I am interested in attending a school with a lot of students. I like diversity and learning from other people. I am not really sure what field I would like to study, considering I am interested in a variety of things. Truthfully, I would like to study something that lets me get the opportunity to help others and make a difference in their life.
