Personal Statement
I am proud to share that I have achieved my second major award this year in two consecutive years:
· 2013-2014 BOCHK Outstanding Athlete Award
· 2014-2015 Grantham Outstanding Student Athlete Award
Both are the highest sports honor in High Schools of Hong Kong. The Grantham Award is newly launched as a territory-wide sports achievement award for student athletes representing Hong Kong to strive for excellence.
I would want to play college hockey in the USA, not only because I have never played outside of Asia, but I believe I could achieve more athletically and academically while exploring the different culture of the USA.
It is not easy being a student-athlete teenager due to the fact that school works are heavily loaded, attending intensive training after school, giving up personal social and family gathering time but I have an organized timetable to keep my priorities straight and maintain a balanced life between sports and academics, grateful to my very supportive caring family.
I have been a team player for 12 years, over these years hockey has become a part of me. I decided to take hockey more seriously at the age of 12 after finishing mini hockey with Kowloon Cricket Club and joining the Hong Kong U21 squad at the age of 12. I regularly represented Hong Kong in international tournaments and joined the Hong Kong Senior National Squad at the age of 14, earning my first cap a few months later. Since then I have earned 23 caps and I’m currently the captain of the Hong Kong National Junior Squad.
After years of training and tournament experience, I become a better leader for my school team and the National Junior Squad. Furthermore, i'm able to assist the mini sessions for my club team as I wish to pass on/return some knowledge whilst at the same time gain coaching knowledge and skills.
I have gained lots of playing skills/experience by participating in many international games, particularly the Asia Cup, East Asian Games and Asian Games, I am a confident defender, hard and tough when under pressure, able to read the game with quick decision making skills. I am ready for more challenges to come.
