My name is Michael Hommes and I am a high school senior from Hudson, Wisconsin. I am a member of the Class of 2013, and my primary position is center field. My desire is to play baseball at the collegiate level. Baseball has always been my favorite sport and I simply love the game. I consistently give my best effort, day in and day out, both in the classroom and on the field to accomplish my goals. Playing college baseball while pursuing my undergraduate degree is an integral part of the next step I want to take in my life’s journey.
I am 5’11” and I weigh 170 pounds. I throw left-handed and I bat left handed. I’ve been a starter on varsity in center field since my sophomore year at Hudson Senior High School, and was named defensive player of the year last year. I am known for my solid defense. I consistently make the routine plays and expect to make the ones that I have to stretch for. I take great pride in my defensive skills, which includes directing what happens in the outfield. I take responsibility for my actions. I help my other outfielders make adjustments on each batter. In the field I have a controlling voice and I always know what situation we are in. I was recently clocked at 84 MPH throwing from the outfield to the cutoff man. This was verified at the Northern Wisconsin TOP PROSPECT Showcase in April at the try-out for the Wisconsin All-Stars. I was also listed on the Big Rivers Conference Pre-Season Players to Watch.
I have lead off every game this baseball season in the number one spot in the line-up. Through 12 games this spring, I have 9 extra base hits, including two triples and seven doubles. My smooth swing and practiced eye at the plate give me the advantage over the opposing pitchers.
My enthusiasm for sports is matched by desire to excel in the classroom. My GPA is 3.79, placing me in the top 10% of my class. I am active in National Honor Society and I am also a student mentor. I am a three-sport athlete and am on track to be a 10-time letter award winner (3-baseball, 4-hockey, 3-football). In football I play quarterback and in hockey I play center. I am privileged this year to serve as captain on our baseball team. My coach named me for this role because of my strong leadership abilities. I lead by example: I am the first one to practice and the last one to leave. I am confident that I am ready to play baseball at the collegiate level.
Thank you for taking time to learn about my experience and goals, and I look forward to hearing back from you soon. If you have any additional questions or need any references, please feel free to contact me.
