Personal Statement

Deciding on one's future can be a very difficult decision, one that will impact the rest of my life. As I have recently entered my freshman year of high school, I realize that this is a decision that needs to be made in my near future. Although I cannot say right at this moment exactly what that might be, there are a few things that I do know for certain. One of those being that I hope the dream I've had since childhood of playing baseball throughout my life will become real. From the first time I set foot on the diamond at the age of four, I knew that I wanted to play this amazing game my whole life. I thank my parents for introducing me to the game of baseball. I knew that in order to keep playing I would need to work hard. I would need to practice, practice even harder, and then practice some more! I would need to achieve academically and I would need to retain my love for the game. When I was seven years old and in my second year of the minor league, I made the all star team for the first time. I was the youngest on the team and I didn't see much playing time. I knew from that moment that I needed to work hard. I had to earn my place on that team and I had to show them that I was good enough to get some playing time, hopefully every inning of every game. The next year I made the team once again and this time I was a starting player. From that point on, I knew I could achieve anything I set my mind to, I just had to work for it. In the sixth grade, I made the middle school baseball team which was something not many sixth graders did. I didn't see much playing time once again so I knew that I had to set some goals for myself and work hard to achieve these goals. The next season, I started every game, either in the outfield or on the pitching mound. During my eighth grade year I was the starting pitcher for the team. During all three years that I played for the middle school team, we won the district championship. When I'm not playing school ball, I am playing travel ball and county league ball. I just can't get enough!
I realize that in order to be a successful baseball player, I must also be successful academically. I have always set my academic standards high. I think this has been instilled in me by my parents. In fact, I may be a little hard on myself but hopefully this will only push me to always do my best. I know that my parents will always be there for me. I want to make them proud. I want to be the best I can be. I dream of playing baseball in college. I dream of a successful career. I plan to work hard, study hard, and play hard so that I can make all of these dreams come true!
