My goals are to obtain a first rate education at a top notch college and the opportunity to compete and play baseball at the collegiate level. My parents always instill in me that getting a good education should be one of my most important goal. I strive every day to do well academically because I know that will pave a right path to a successful future. My parents, both Houston Astros fans, love watching the game of baseball so putting me in Tee-ball at the young age of three was not at all surprising. By the time I played “kid-pitch”, I developed a growing passion for the game. I wanted to stay longer after practice to improve my infield and outfield drills and instead of playing video games, I worked diligently at the jug net by pitching or hitting. Being a positive team member, possessing self-motivation, and the internal drive to do well for myself and my teammates will make me a good candidate for your baseball program.
I believe what makes me stand out from other athletes is that I am a Vietnamese American. I am a native Houstonian but my parents’ birthplaces were both in Vietnam. Due to the Vietnam War, my parents and their families escape their beloved country and came to America for freedom. My parents were part of the Vietnamese refugees that worked hard every day for survival and opportunities. They both taught me to be a strong person with good morals, excellent work ethics, and the will and determination to do my best at all times. These important qualities are evident when I perform on the field or in the classroom. My current 3.8 GPA has proven that hard work will pay off in the long run. My versatility on the baseball diamond while either at shortstop, outfield or pitchers mound will show the coaches that they can put me at any position and I will give 110%. I put in the work and I don’t like to make excuses. My parents have taught me well. I dream one day that if I continue to focus positive energy and hard work toward these two goals of attending a good college and getting the privilege to play collegiate baseball, then both can become a reality.
