I'm Roderick Sorrell, Jr. and it's always been a dream of mine to play baseball at the college level. I've been playing since I was four years old. This 2015-16 year I will be a senior at Central Medical Magnet High School. I'm currently in the medical magnet program, member of the Student Council, National Honor Society, and H.O.S.A. In my class I rank 20 in a class size of 338 students with a GPA of 3.70. My favorite subjects are math and science. I plan to continue my education after high school and major in pre-med. I want to specialize in pediatrics or sports medicine. I'm hard working, persistent, easy to get along with, and dedicated. However, there's always a part of my game that I can improve on, and that's where a college level program will help me progress to the next level. I've been on the varsity baseball team since my 9th grade year. I'm a versatile player, but my favorite and best position is catcher followed by 1st base and 2nd base. I've played on summer league and fall league teams to perfect my skills at these positions. In addition, I was selected to play in the 2014 and 2015 Texas Association of Sports Officials 5A/6A High School All-Star games in my home town. In addition, I played club ball this summer through Golden Triangle Academy, and played approximately 12 games. I’ve completed numerous community service/volunteer work during my high school career that included the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Special Olympics, Jaguar Booster Club, Compton Chapel Vacation Bible School, Compton Chapel Food Bank, HEB Feast of Sharing, Trick-A-Truck, North End Little League, Thunder Football/Pop Warner, Battered Women’s Shelter, and Elder Sitting. Non-school clubs, teams, and organizations I belong to or participate in are Compton Chapel Youth Choir, Golden Triangle Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering, National Collegiate Scouting Association, and Golden Triangle Sports Academy. I’ve received awards/honors from The National Society of High School Scholars, Rotary Youth Leadership Award, Perfect Attendance Award, Honor Roll, Red Cross CPR, and Future Leaders Award. I feel that I am an excellent candidate for any college program and could add value to any team.
