My name is Kaleb Bryce Jeans and I attend Columbia Academy located in Columbia, TN where I have attended now for 12 years (including Kindergarten). Although I have played a variety of sports (soccer, football, baseball, basketball) my passion has always been baseball. I have played baseball since I was old enough to hold a ball in my hand and throw it and hold and bat and swing it. I have broken a few windows and almost lost a few teeth playing. I love this sport with all I have and I live to play it every day whether its game time, practice, or messing around in the back yard with my brother. I strive to be among the most disciplined and one of the best team players. The hardest challenge I have faced is learning how to separate my emotions about the "game" and expecting perfection from myself to letting my mind just tell my body what it needs to do and every ball dropping into place (literally).
Baseball is one of the most mind abusive games and with that I feel confident in knowing I have matured and grew over the past 14 years in my baseball career with understanding that point and knowing I am the one who makes up my mind for the next action or inaction; not the ball or the play. This sport has helped me to channel the lessons of dealing with disappointments and excitements from the field to day to day life struggles. I look forward to the day I can help someone else along their way of succeeding through my experiences, whether they be disappointments from striking out looking or missing the catch to stop the run for a loss to excitements from a hit in the bottom of the 7th that wins the game or catching that last out that held us 1 score above with bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning to finally receive that trophy. Baseball is a roller coaster of emotions from your head all the way to your toes. It takes special people to enjoy and live to play 7+ innings of "you never know what you're about to get" and I am definitely in the top percentile of the living to play the game people.
My hopes and goals are to be given an opportunity to continue playing baseball after my high school career has finished while attending a college that offers courses of study that equip me to be a successful adult and an asset to my community in my chosen career path.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my statement.
