Ben Swaby '12 Recruiting Profile

My name is Ben Swaby and i am the center fielder for Allderdice high school. I am six feet, three inches tall and weigh 190 pounds. As a freshman i made the varsity roster and maintained that position for my entire high school career. As a junior i was selected for All-City (all conference) for hitting an average of .350 and not letting up a single error throughout the season. Going into my senior year, i have been selected as a co-captain due to my leadership qualities as a player on and off the field. My skill set on the field is mainly characterized by my speed (6.92- 60 meter dash), ability to hit for contact, and my arm strength (84-85 mph from OF).  Unfortunately, prior to winter of 2011 i was unaware of the level of competition entering collegiate baseball. Since then, i have outworked everyone of my peers and my competition by training daily for hours at a time to improve my speed, hitting, arm speed, and overall baseball IQ. And the results are clear; my 60 meter dash time has drastically decreased from a 7.86 in late May to a 6.92 in July. My arm speed has increased over 5 mph since winter, my batting average increased almost .100 points, and the results continue to improve. I now completely understand the level of  training and commitment needed for this level of baseball, and will not stop pressing my abilities until I'm at the top of my game. Hours at the gym and on the diamond continue to show their importance as my skill set continues to rapidly increase. As a senior in high school i have BIG dreams of play competitive collegiate baseball. Throughout my high school career my academics have continuously been my strong suit. I believe i can compete in any level of competition whether it be DI, DII, or even DIII.   My ideal university would be in an urban setting in the northeast/mid-Atlantic region with a great academic reputation and majors in Psychology and Kinesiology.
