Personal Statement

As a scholar-athlete, I hope to continue to push myself to achieve the highest levels possible.  Thus far I have been fortunate enough to have had success with Baseball on the national level while playing Basketball at a high level locally.  I hope to continue this trend into High School while continuing to be an A & B student.  While I know there are many challenges ahead, I hope that through hard work and perseverance I can achieve my goal of playing baseball at a top program.

This spring I have been leading my HS Varsity team as a Sophomore on a top team in NJ (St Joseph-Metuchen 14-6).  I have been a starting pitcher, currently with a 5-0 record and 2 saves.   I have been consistently clocked at 86-88, topping out at 91mph.  I also start at 2B and SS when not pitching. I have updated my profile below with my stats from this current and past seasons.

This past summer/fall I hoped to have a chance to represent my country on the 15U USA National team and once again was named to the 40-man roster, for the second consecutive year.  I also played in numerous tournaments with So Cal NTT travel team, and finished the summer with an ERA of 0.40 after 35 innings pitched.  At the conclusion, I received an invitation to the PerfectGame Underclass All American Games.  Because I believe that playing alongside and against some of the best talent in the country will ultimately prepare me for playing at the top collegiate level, I have chosen to accept an invitation to play for the prestigious Evoshield Canes (2017 Prime) team this upcoming summer.

  • Justin Willis is a 2017 RHP/MIF with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from West New York, NJ who attends St Joseph. Medium, athletic build, young and lean frame with room to fill out with added strength. Ran a 7.52 60-yard dash. Primary right-handed pitcher, works from a three-quarter arm slot on the mound. Polished mechanics, up tempo delivery, smooth arm stroke, ball comes out of hand clean and jumps on hitters. Worked fastball in the 82-84 mph with nice arm side run to it. Aggressive on the mound, good pitchability for age. Strong feel for 11-5 curveball, throws it for strikes and shows depth at 68 mph. Moves well up the middle in the infield and charges well, shows strength across, fields cleanly and out front. Right-handed hitter, hits from an open stance, upper half swing, short path to the ball, pull side approach, shows some bat speed in swing. Named to Sunshine Northeast Top Prospect List. Very good student. http://www.perfectgame.org/events/Showcases/TopProspectList.aspx?event=2277

  • Baseball Factory Evaluation: Justin is a tall, thin, athletically gifted player both on the mound and in the field. On the mound Justin has good, free and loose arm action from his 3/4 arm angle. He separates on time and has a smooth and relaxed rhythm. Justin throws a plus fastball with some run action, a sharp 11/5 curveball that he can control and a solid change-up. Justin needs to work on using his lower half more to gain even more velocity and not overthrowing with his arm. In the field Justin's plus arm carries over with a loose arm action that has a lot of life and is accurate. He works through the ball well and plays aggressively with sure hands and quick agile footwork. His fielding position is athletic but needs to field the ball more out in front of his body. Occasionally Justin can be too aggressive to the ball and will over pursue. At the plate Justin has an athletic setup with a good launch/load position. He has little to no stride, and turns his body thru the swing. His bat speed is fast with hard contact/line drive power. Justin needs to work on letting the ball travel and use the whole field. He is occasionally late in delivering the barrel. With continued work Justin is a future impact player. He is a natural leader, good teammate, very coachable, plays hard and never quits. With those intangibles, he has the ability to play at a high level. Top velocity pitching - 81mph. Day 1- 3IP, 0ER, 2H, 4K, 0BB. Day 3 - 4IP, 0ER, 1H, 7K, 1BB. ********** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ta3LlKjt1ok http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDgSSXlXESM

  • Justin is a solid, athletic 2-way player with good skills. On the mound, Justin has a loose arm, level shoulders, and good direction toward home. He has good glove side lead, life on his FB, and he finishes in a complete position. At SS, Justin has active feet, sure hands, and he throws with life across the diamond. Offensively, Justin has a square set-up, good balance, and a level swing. His hands are quick, he has good bat speed, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. FB MPH-Range: 76 - 81; CB MPH-Range: 62 - 65; CH MPH-Range: 70 - 71

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
