Ben Carson once said, "Through hard work, perseverance and a faith in God, you can live your dreams." My dream is not merely to play college baseball or even to simply make a roster spot. Albeit, these are important factors, they are not the ends to me. The dream for me is to play at the highest level possible and use baseball as a means to helping others conquer their own fears and achieve their own dreams. My parents and I come from humble beginnings, and to me baseball is the way I would love to give back. Whether, it is volunteering or instructing younger children about the game, or even being an outlet for others to come watch good baseball to help them forget about their problems for three hours. Therefore, not only will you get a talented player, but a player who is seeing the big picture. This is what drives me through long workouts, late-night practices after homework, or tied games in the seventh inning. In my mind, if I give up, I will be giving up on someone else. Baseball is a great opportunity to master a craft and share this craft with people for enjoyment and enrichment. This is what I seek to do, to surround myself with players and coaches who see the same big picture I see, and who I can share my drive and passion for the game with. To me, winning is not everything, winning over your self is. And it is through achieving these personal victories, overcoming obstacles, and contributing to the betterment of the team as a whole that I believe separates me. In summation, if I can contribute to my team offensively, defensively, and most importantly mentally then I have done my job not only as a fellow teammate, but as a fellow human being.
