Personal Statement

My name is John Baker. Playing baseball at the collegiate level is my dream, regardless if it is D1, D2, D3, or JUCO. Obviously, D1 would be my first choice, but I understand that this may not occur. There are several factors involved in finding the right college (financial, academics, my athletic ability, location, and overall fit). Keeping my options open, I believe it will help me reach my goal. Academics as well as my athletic training are very important. I understand that my grade point plays a significant factor on my choices for colleges. Actually, my class work must come first, since making a career of playing professional baseball may not happen, but that does not stop me from dreaming. My commitment to this sport cannot be challenged. My desire has always been to be the best player on the field. During the offseason my plan is to continue with a strong workout plan and I do understand that the season never ends for players that want to reach the next level.

  • 2016 John Baker (Fenton, MI) is a strong, 6-foot-2 205 right handed hitter who is able to get good extension with the bat, finishing his swing with some lift and has the ability to drive the ball. That was evident as he made contact to all fields and able to put one over the Green Monster at JetBlue Stadium. John Baker (2016, RHP/3B/1B, Hartland HS, Fenton, MI) struck out 8 hitters in 4 innings of work only giving up 2 hits. On the mound, he throws easy, with a long loose arm action, had a heavy FB that sat 80-85 MPH and mixed in his CH at 74 MPH with good fade. Named to Top Prospect List and Top Prospect Team. Additionally, PG 2014 Underclass Honorable Mention

  • John Baker, RHP/3B, Hartland HS, 2016 Big 6-foot-2, 205-pound sophomore with a good foundation. On the mound may be his best upside but he can swing it as well 81-84mph fastball. H3/4 slot with smooth mechanics. Relatively straight at this poing. Breaking ball has 12/6 bite (65-66mph). Did a nice job keeping arm speed near his fastball on the change (70-71mph). Developing power arm in the making. Easy velo. At the plate has pop in the bat. Gap-to-gap pop. Longer arm action in the infield. 80mph across the diamond. Threw the ball accurately. Made all of the plays. 7.48 runner.

He showed the ability to keep the hitters off balance and was aggressive in his approach utilizing his FB/CB arsenal. He showed good command with his 75-78 FB topping at 79 and a CB that hovered between 63-65. Game 2 - John Baker (2016, Hartland HS, MI) pitched the final 2.1 innings to get the win in relief for the Bees.
