Personal Statement

My name is Matthew Houle and a Senior at University of Detroit Jesuit High School.  I am 5'11” and 195 lbs.  I throw and bat right-handed. While I enjoy playing high school football, basketball and baseball, baseball became my true passion.  My main goal is to gain a quality college education while using my athleticism and baseball abilities to make a solid impact in a competitive college baseball program.  Currently, I specialize at catcher and with athleticism can play the outfield.  I am very competitive both on and off the field.  One thing that gives me a competitive edge is my work ethic.  I put extra time in to work on my swing, catching skills and fielding techniques to stay sharp and ensure that I continue my development as a player, example is working with a private catcher coach to continue building my skill set.  This private coach has uplifted my game knowledge and performance; Rick Sellers.

Last year I was on Varsity as a Sophomore, contributed both in game and bullpen.  The Varsity Head Coach at U of D Jesuit is Jim Mancuso, 248-978-4280.  I played summer ball with the 18U Michigan Bulls with Head Coach Sean Gallagher 248-376-1085.  Through my young years of playing baseball I have had many great experiences in playing against good competition to make me better and to understand the game more than I already know.   My athletic work ethic is also with academics and work hard at being the best student possible at an academic demanding college preparatory high school.  Planning my college academics, at this time, I plan on majoring in areas of Sports Management and business.  College is a lifelong decision, and important to find a college that fits with a competitive baseball program and quality education within my majors.

I look forward to the challenge and opportunity!

Thank You for your time, it is appreciated.

Sincere Regards,

Matt Houle
