Personal Statement

Hello coaches,

My name is Stephen Quigley. I am a Junior at Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston, Massachusetts and I play Shortstop and switch hit.

After high school, I would love to continue my academic and athletic career at a 4 year university to play baseball. Throughout my playing years, I have played with some of the best competition in the state, from the Gatorade Players of the Year to players that have played in Spring Training for major league teams. Ever since I was young I've always dreamt of playing Division 1 baseball, and now, I feel as though I can compete at any college level. I am a 3 year varsity player and a 2 year starter here at Silver Lake, which has one of the best Division 1 baseball programs in the state.

The reason that I am a great candidate for any college team is my work ethic and leadership, not just on the field but in the classroom as well. I have maintained a 4.0+ GPA throughout my first 3 years of High School, making the Honor Roll all but 1 term since 7th grade when I received a C+ in AP Biology. However, I was able to bounce back and get an A- and an A in the following terms which shows my resilience and hard work.

The thing that really sets me apart from other recruits is the trust any coach or player can have for me. Whether it is about making good decisions or making the toughest plays in the field, I'd consider myself a very trustworthy person. Any coach can trust that I will always put in the work to get better every day and give 110% at everything I do. Also, I believe true leadership is one thing that many coaches struggle to find nowadays, but I consider myself a great leader in terms of setting a good example and being able to control a team from shortstop. Lastly, I believe my academics also sets me apart from most other recruits. I have been able to maintain a 4.0+ GPA in high school while playing a sport that I train year round for, and I have been able to maintain a great social life as well. My SAT score of a 1270 is considered above average, but I know I can still score higher.  I'm also member of the National Honor Society at Silver Lake.

Ran 60 yard dash in 7.52 seconds. Switch-hitter; even-based and relaxed from right side, smoothness to stroke with some slashing action, line drive plane with good jump to all fields. Fires back elbow and keeps hands inside from left side; inside-out approach, flashes bat speed when barrel gets out, opposite-field approach. Athletic actions in the infield with good range to both sides; fields cleanly and gets off quick, clean release with lots of arm strength, clocked up to 88 mph across the diamond. Also pitched; big leg lift with good drive, stays online with hips, medium-length arm stroke with hook through the back, high three quarters slot. Fastball worked 79-83 mph with good arm side life; showed slider with slurvy shape and flashes of bite. Shows side-to-side command, good tools on the mound. • Stephen Quigley (2018 SS/RHP, Halifax, MA) made consistent hard contact at the plate today for the gold team. Quigley is a gap to gap hitter with pop and good bat speed. On the mound Quigley topped out at 83mph on his fastball with his slider at 73mph. Quigley does a good job of mixing his pitches in and throwing both of them for strikes showing good depth to his slider. Quigley showed good bat speed with feel for the barrel from both sides of the plate, and also had the best IF arm of the event, throwing 88 mph across with excellent carry and good overall defensive actions. He then got on the mound and topped as 83 mph with a good slider.

  • Received a Perfect Game grade of 8 (Potential Draft pick and/or excellent college prospect). Named to Top Prospect Team. Stephen Quigley is a 2018 SS/2B with a 5-10 150 lb. frame from Halifax, MA who attends Silver Lake High School. Medium build and frame, athleticism, and room to continue to fill out physically and add strength. Posted a 7.53 time in the 60 yard dash. Primary shortstop, fielded the ball out front, raw arm strength across the diamond up to 81 mph. Showed gather into throws with developing accuracy. At the plate, a switch hitter who showed best from the right side. Started with a medium hand set, high back elbow, wide base, and utilized a quicker leg lift timing mechanism. Worked all fields with a deeper weight shift and intent to drive the ball from the right side. Showed raw bat speed with a line drive swing plane and natural loft off the barrel. From the left side showed similar bat speed, but a more pull oriented approach. Also pitched, used a longer arm action, soft hook, online landing, leg lift past belt, and threw from a three quarter arm slot. Fastball worked 79-81/82 mph with effort at release and short arm side life. Will aggressively work inside with fastball and generated swings and misses off the pitch. Also showed a curveball with short, tight 10/4 shape. Slows arm slightly for curveball and should finish through the pitch. Exceptional student.
