I have been a baseball player since not long after I could walk. I have wanted to play college baseball since I found out that's what people did after high school. At my house, there never has been a question about whether or not I would go to college, just where it would be. When I learned that it was a possibility to play baseball in college, my world was complete. For as long as I can remember, its was Minor League, Major League, Junior League, high school, college, then the Big Leagues. I know none of this makes me any different than any other aspiring college athlete, but there are things that do. I'm grounded. I am practical, hard-working and dependable-- all of those solid words that mean you can count on me. I've been taught that no one gets anywhere without putting in the work, and I work. On and off the field, I am not afraid of hard work. I am a leader at my school (Beta Club, FCCLA, Key Club) and on my teams. I am a Captain on the soccer team and only one of 2 Varsity baseball players in my class. I take those leaderships role very seriously.
I really think that playing baseball has prepared me for life. My dad reminds me all the time that baseball is the only sport where you can fail 3 out 10 times and still end up in the Hall of Fame. It reminders like that make me keep trying, keep working and getting the job done. Whenever I am faced with a difficult task or something I don't know how to do, I say, "I'm Casey Clark. I can do anything." While, most of the time, it is said as a joke, deep down I believe it. I am not afraid to at least try. If I fail, I'll try again and again.
I've come to understand that whether I make it to the Big Leagues or not, there is life after baseball. I plan to major in Turf Maintenance so that I can stay close to the field, even if I'm not the one playing on it. I know, like baseball, college will take work and I am ready for that challenge.
