Personal Statement
Living overseas in three countries for the past fourteen years of my life has enabled me to bring a lot of outside perspective on the field and, most importantly, in the classroom. I was born in Houston, Texas on November 11th 1999 and in two years time, move to Venezuela where I stayed for a little more than four years. I returned to Houston in 2005 but once again displaced in 2007 to Singapore. Where we would eventually call our home and truly mean it. We wouldn't move again until 2015 where we went from Singapore to Dubai. These were two very different places, both in culture, and landscape. Although it wasn't an issue because by this time I've learned to adapt to just about anything. I consider my ability to get along with people despite their opinions that may conflict with mine and cultural upbringings a unique skill that can benefit a team as a cultural difusor.
My Freshman year I had surgery on my left posterior labrum. This was a four-to-six month recovery, which meant that I wouldn't be able to participate in any of my school athletic teams for the rest of the year. Although, at first I was mortified and heartbroken, I soon realized that this time off from sports was a blessing. I was now able to find a lot of enjoyment in my academics which has carried over to this day. In addition to my enjoyment of my academics, I have also enjoyed playing the violin with the Chamber Orchestra in both the Singapore American School and American School of Dubai for the past 5 years. I have also been offered to fast track onto the AP Studio Art program due to my artistic abilities. However, I will not be taking this opportunity because I would rather spend the time working on my other AP courses that carry more weight.
Like most athletes, I have dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort into getting faster, stronger, and overall becoming a better athlete. However, I would not have as much success in baseball as I do now without the athleticism and leadership skills I have gained through playing a variety other sports such as volleyball, football, rugby, and soccer. All of which I have received prestigious accolades such as Top Defensive Player and MVP for the SAFL Gators in 2014 and 2015. Additionally, I was the team captain for the following teams
The SAS Eagles rugby team where we came in second place in the ACSIS Division 2 regular season.
The SACAC 19u travel baseball team where I had the highest batting average on the team.
The Hit Factory 17u baseball team in which I lead the team in RBI's and had the highest batting average.
The SAS JV volleyball team where we came in first place in the 3rd season IASAS Tournament.
The ASD JV volleyball team where we came in first place in the 1st season MESAC Tournament.
The ASD Varsity Baseball team in 2016 where we came in first place in the 3rd season MESAC Tournament and received the Triple Crown Award.
The ASD Varsity Baseball team in 2017 where we came in first place in the 3rd Season MESAC Tournament and received the Triple Crown award and MVP title.
Concludingly, I believe I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character, work-ethic, maturity and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on your program.
