- 3ip, 6K, 0 Hits.-Named to Top Prospect Team-Latest Showcase Report 2017 National Academic Showcase Jun 17, 2017 PG Grade: 8 Ethan Shear is a 2018 LHP/ with a 5-11 155 lb. frame from Longwood, FL who attends Lake Highland Preparatory. Medium frame with a lean build and wiry strength. Projects for additional size and strength. Primary left handed pitcher with a simple side step to high leg lift delivery. Stays tall and balanced on back side at gather and utilized lower half well showing drop and drive actions to the plate. Lands at a slightly closed front side position generating some cross fire at release from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball jumped out of hand well with good downhill tilt to the plate and heavy running action to arm side, topped at 82 miles per hour. Curveball had 11/5 shape with tight spin and hard, late depth. Also flashed a slider offering that had same tight rotation and solid sweep to glove side. Smooth, fluid actions throughout delivery and easily repeated arm slot allowing for good command of the zone. Consistently mixed all pitches effectively and spotted to each edge of the plate. Excellent student.
