My collegiate goal is to acquire a valuable education that will allow me to reach my full potential as an adult academically as well as allow me to develop and contribute my talent as a dedicated athlete. I aspire to continue to play baseball as well as build on my skills to play professionally upon graduation.
I am a stand-out candidate from other recruits for your team for 3 reasons. The first is that among my strongest character traits I feel that my perseverance is my greatest asset. It is evident in my grades and academic history that I never give up. In my dedication to any task I am presented with, through strong discipline I work harder than most people in my generation to reach my goals and not just settle. Where academics come easy to some, and others just give up, I stay with what I need to do in order to succeed. As the fourth son in the family I found my older brothers as positive role models. They didn't treat me as a lesser just because of my size or experience. They encouraged me to try, work through adversity, and acknowledge what may be holding me back so I can find a way around it to succeed. I apply that determination to my athletics as well as academically. I accept any challenge not as a way to accept what I can do, but to instill a desire to achieve to a higher degree.
Secondly, I have a strong sense of respect and empathy for others. My parents have instilled a strong sense of respect not only for them, but for my teachers, coaches and fellow peers. Through my experiences in mentoring others in baseball and working with the handicapped through the Best Buddies program I found that showing respect and understanding to everyone encourages them to treat me the same. Again, my brothers modeled compassion and respect as they accepted me as an equal. Rather than building insecurities my brothers showed that cooperation, patience, and respect made me a better person. I bring this to my game. This is relevant as a teammate, respect for each other is vital to any team whether on a field or in a workplace.
My final reason for being a stand out candidate is evident in my leadership. In class my teachers can count on me to be cooperative. In any team I am on I treat my teammates fair and honorably, I stay objective despite my opinion of a call made by either my coach or the umpire. Through my leadership I am able to model these traits to my classmates and teammates allowing for both teachers and coaches to rely on me to be a leader. I have earned the title of infield leader for every team I have been on.
I am a utility player that specializes in the middle infield. My perseverance is evident as I work hard on the field and off. My respect and leadership also makes me a valuable addition to any class or team. It is my dream to play college baseball. I've loved baseball all of my life, I feel all of my experiences on and off the field have made me a valuable candidate and a benefit to any college team. Although my aspiration is to play professionally I am fully aware of the value my education will have as it opens doors and guides my choices in life.
