Personal Statement

My name is Andre Angel-Bello, I am 6'0 weigh 200 pounds. I'm a catcher and third basemen. I have accomplished much in the past 4 years, and here are some examples. In 8th grade, age 14 I was invited to try out for the Cincinnati Reds scout team. I made the team and hit just under 300. Shortly thereafter I was invited to try out to play with the San Diego Sharks for the 16U Junior Olympic team, unfortunately, I took a foul ball off my throwing hand while playing in a high school scrimmage game and was unable to continue with the Sharks. Arriving at Crespi I was the only player in my Frosh class who was asked to play up. I started as the JV third basemen and hitting fourth in the batting order all season and ended the season hitting .391 with over 70 at bats. The following year, as a sophomore I was asked to play on Varsity, however, I ended up playing for both Varsity and JV teams. I became the second string catcher on Varsity and first string JV catcher for the entire 2010 season. In my sophomore year I ended the season hitting .466 with over 70 at bats. I carried a better than 3.0 during the season, made the Honor Roll (currently on Deans list)and was awarded Offensive Player of the Year by the coaches. This summer I started showcasing. My first showcase was Perfect Game Sunshine West Showcase in San Diego where I popped a 2.03 in the event and a 1.95 in a game, and was clocked at 87MPH off the mound. Recently I was invited to the Area Code game tryout and I was among the top five best pop times and received honorable mention in the ESPN On the Rise blog/article which recapped the tryout events. In August 2010 I was invited to the Perfect Game National Game best of 2012 class, where I popped a 1.93 and was clocked at 85 to 87MPH off the mound. Also received an invite to attend the No. CA. National USA team ID series in USF where I popped a 2.03 and 86MPH from the mound and earned a trip to Cary No. Caroline for the NTIS showcase where I popped 1.94 and ran a 7.38 60. In addition, I was invited by Trosky Baseball for the AZ. Sr. Classic try outs I popped a 1.92 and ran a 7.5 60 to earn a spot on the sr. roster in my Junior year. In addition to my love and respect for the game, there is a lot I can offer a team, like leadership, determination, hustle and the value of hard work. Growing up I have always played at the highest level possible, beginning with Pony Ball, Little League and club Baseball. I have always been the youngest but always made every effort to be my best and be on top and I've consistently succeeded at being one of the best on my team and on the field. I learned early in life the value of hard work, determination and leadership. Those values have been ingrained in me because of my father's involvement in coaching, training and running a competitive baseball travel teams since I was 8 years old. I was taught that to be a leader on the field, meant I had to work hard and play my best, give 110% but most importantly, to be a leader I needed to lead by example on and off the field and let my game speak for itself. Those are values I've held true to this day. I practice and train endlessly every day, always striving to improve and as a result in the past 2 years of high school baseball I've led the team in average and RBI's with the most at bats. Going forward I plan to continue this proven approach to improving as an athlete, person, baseball player and being one of the best Varsity players my school has ever had. My long term baseball goal is to play at the highest level possible. I intend to work hard and to play to the absolute best of my abilities in an effort to have a successful college baseball career and one day hopefully play professional baseball.
