Patrick Gurley '12 Recruiting Profile

My name is Patrick Cleburne Gurley and I am a student/athlete.  I currently attend Catholic High School for Boys (Class 7A) in Little Rock, AR, where I rank in the top third of my class academically (GPA = 3.91 on a 4-point scale; ACT = 23) and have been a starting pitcher on the varsity baseball team since my freshman year.  I am 6'3" tall and weigh 195 pounds.  While I am a left-handed pitcher with decent velocity (86 mph), my strength is my control.  Currently, I throw 4 pitches for strikes: fastball (2- and 4-seam), cutter, changeup, and curveball.  One of the most frequent comments I receive from coaches at camps or showcases is in regard to my "coachability."  I have always considered myself a serious pitcher who works hard at honing my pitching skills in order to play at the collegiate level.  Moreover, my role as a pitcher and as an officer in my Marine Corps Jr. ROTC program has helped me to become a leader both on and off the baseball field.

I realize I have started this recruiting process late, but I still want to pursue playing competitive baseball and am open to explore opportunities at all divisions.  I am looking for an institution where I can obtain a degree either in engineering or a degree to prepare me for a career in the health sciences, preferably physical therapy or medicine.  Although I currently live in Little Rock, I am interested in attending a school in the southwest or southeast region of the country.
